To the Members of the LA County Board of Supervisors:
The workforce at 211 LA County just spent the past year literally handling thousands of calls from LA County residents throughout the entire COVID-19 pandemic – assisting people during their most desperate hour by compassionately connecting them to exactly where they needed to go. All of us at SEIU 721, but especially at 211 LA County, know LA County very well. It’s not some far-away place. We live and work here, too. We used the highest standards of professionalism during an excruciating time for our entire nation. And we still do.
LA County now wants to reward the workforce of 211 LA County with potential layoffs, and privatize our jobs. This move would betray the spirit of Measure J, which voters passed last November so that more taxpayer funding would go towards good-paying jobs that make our communities happier, healthier and more wholesome … jobs like those at 211 LA County.
Many of us at 211 LA County voted for Measure J. Our Union, SEIU 721 endorsed Measure J.
But we, the people of LA County, did not pass Measure J so that elected officials and top county managers – who are entrusted to protect our community – could betray us instead by colluding with Big Tech to make big profits for them after obliterating our good union jobs. To add insult to injury, LA County is using our taxpayer dollars to fund the entire privatization process.
We, the undersigned members of SEIU 721, demand an immediate stop to it. Keep our jobs Union. Don’t let Big Tech privatize LA County jobs at 211 ... or anywhere else.
